The stupid, it hurts...

So, I was out with my mum and the dog in the nearest-but-not-nicest town. Walking past a shop I noticed they were selling jeans for £5. (About US$8) 'Great!' I think, 'I need jeans!' So I go and look and select 2 pairs that look as though they might fit. Now, I have trouble buying trousers. My bum and waist are *not* in proportion. So I always have to try before I buy. No big deal right? Wrong.

Taking them up to the cash desk I was told 'you can't try on the half price stuff.'

WTF?! I asked why and they said 'we're just seling them off and consentrating on the other clothes.'

I looked around. Now, had they been busy I'd have understood. But except for me and the two people behind the desk, the place was DESERTED. 'Come on,' I said, 'the place is empty!' But they wouldn't budge. I was told I could bring them back if they didn't fit. Well great but - no. Why should I put myself out for them?

Needless to say, I left without buying anything. Maybe a £5 sale means nothing to them, but if they keep doing that to people, they'll soon find themselves out of business!

OMG! That's so... idiotic! Lucky me for never asking anyone if I can or cannot try something out. I've always thought... it's a store, it's in a store, changing cabin is in the store... oh well... :P

Okay, that's stupid. Actually, it sounds like something out of a comedy skit about the absurd. Pity it's real.

(Btw, I also have that waist-bum problem. I most wear skirts now because I'm tired of trying to find trousers that fit.)

Wow, that's ridiculous (not to mention a great way to lose business)!

What if you had taken those two pairs of half price trousers and, say, two full price pairs to the changing room? Would they have weeded them out (my guess is yes, given their stupidity level)?

How utterly, utterly stupid. Well, they a) missed out on a sale, b) missed out on any future sales and c) missed out on any 'while I am in here and getting these I might get something else NOT in the sale' sales.

It's almost worth writing to them and pointing that out...I would, but then I am stroppy!

I would have asked to speak to the store manager. Usually, a stupid policy like that is introduced by some employee (read lackey here) who wants to tell someone else what to do for a change, to have power over some one else and see them squirm. Any good store amangaer who does not want to run the business into the ground would let anyone try them on.

The policy is a totally arbitrary non-logical example of someone exercising their will over another because they can It upsets the customer and loses sales. If indeed the store manager was aware of the policy and didn't change it, he or she obviously is not doing the job they were hired for, which is to see merchandise sold. If it was a private shop and the owner set the policy, they must not want to stay in business!

*shakes head* People like that should not be in sales.

*head->desk, repeat*

My brain hurts from the store's lack of logic....
