Sorry to update again, but I'm panicking. I just noticed blood in Smudge's urine. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Maybe it's just caused by stress, but I'm really worried.

ETA: Taking him to the vet's tomorrow. I just wondered what the many cat-owners on my flist thought. *Sigh* He seems otherwise OK, so I hope it's not serious. I shouldn't have looked online though... all you get is worst case senarios!

It could be a kidney stone...

A trip to the vets is in order I think...

I believe so. o_o

Yes. A kidney stone or bladder stones. My dog had a lot of bladder stones and they were easily removed by the vet. He even gave them to me in a little jar afterwards. They were quite beautiful - green and blue. Like little wee jewels.

I hope that's all it is... I'll try to get a vet's appointment. He seems OK in himself otherwise...

It could also be a kidney infection - something you have to be careful of with males. All my cats get purified water because one of them is prone to them, and they're on a special food for it. Definitely a trip to the vet is in order.

We're going tomorrow... I'm praying antibiotics are all that are needed.

*hugs tightly* I agree with everything everyone else has said. Don't let it go. If its been a one time thing, it could be that he just had something pass roughly, but if he keeps having it for more than a day.. Yeah. Vets.

Well there was a little yesterday to, so... vets tomorrow. Hopefully it's nothing much...

Could it be an infection? And if he is drinking properly, then he should be OK, but I would take him to the vet if you can.

We're going tomorrow. Better safe than sorry.

**hugs the kitty** Definitely a trip to the vet - it's likely something simple, but best to be sure!

Yeah and to catch it quickly. I just have to hope it's nothing much!

Definitely take him to the vet's -- it sounds like it could be a UTI. There is a special food that will help with it. Is he drinking more water than usual? I'll be on YIM tonight if you need me. *Hopes he's okay*

I haven't noticed him drinking any more... but he's out a lot, so it's hard to say.

Bladder thing....urinary tract thing.

Those are my thoughts. Antibiotics will clear it right up. I hate when they get sick. Really do.

I'm praying that's all it is...

does he strain when trying to go pee? or does he seem to want to squat to pee no matter where he is? it could be a bladder or kidney infection...or feline urologic syndrome which is VERY typical in male cats...if it is this, the vet will drain his bladder, probably keep him overnight for some antibiotics, give you some to take home and put him on a urinary tract special diet (i've had three male cats get this...it's from too much magnesium in their system)...it's fixable as long as he gets in to get it fixed asap.

love, vesta

I had the same problem with my big male cat--after almost a thousand dollars later--he was fine--He had FUS --and they need low magnesium and low Ash diets--but it needs to be treated Right away--or poison's will build up in their system and quickly.
Best of Luck!

Ervy

God I hope its not that... no idea where I'll get that kind of money from...

If you take your cat to the regular Vet it should NOT cost that much---unfortunatley It happened to us on a weekend night and when I picked him up--he gushed blood ALL over the kitchen floor. So we had to rush him to the emergency University Animal Hospital and it cost near $600 for overnight!!! *Credit Card*

But when I took him for the rest of his care at our normal Vet is was only about $150.00.

Best of Luck!!!

Problem is, he goes out a lot so it's hard to tell. He's been spraying a lot though, because of the other cat here. I'm hoping its just an infection, as there are no other symptoms.

Bringing him to the vet is the best solution and I agree with all the others on the urinary or kidney problem.
((Many hugs)) and positive thoughts to you and Smudge.

Meeep! :(

I hope it is something very little that can be treated quickly! Give that rascal a hug from me, please!

And consider yourself being sniggled tightly. :)

Ohh, and I was shocked to my most inner core that you missed your evening cocoa the other night! O_O

I don't have cats, but that happened with my dog and we took her to the vet. It was a bladder infection and after 2 weeks of antibiotics, she was all better. (The blood stopped after about a day or so).

So good luck! But I'm sure he'll be fine!
