Away with You - Chapter 3

Farin looked at the two elves before him as Norin explained why he’d brought them here. He was angry with Norin right now, but he had to admit he was curious. It was rare to see an elf, let alone identical twins.
When Norin mentioned that the twins were ‘close’ he heard the hidden inflection in the word.
He instantly remembered Norin’s cousins Belenar and Brelig. Though dwarves were more accepting of blood relationships than elves, their lives had not been easy. Belenar had been considered most fair amongst dwarf-women had it had angered a few that she would never wed. Most angry had been Porin, who had desired the dwarf-maid for many years.

They had ignored his rantings, dismissing it as petty jealously. That had been a terrible mistake. Porin’s jealousy grew and festered until it consumed him. Brelig’s commander, he had ordered him on more and more dangerous missions. Brelig had never complained, not wishing to appear weak or troublesome. Only his beloved sister had known and begged him to say something.
“If only he had.” Farin thought. For eventually the inevitable had happened. Sent out as a lone scout, Brelig had been attacked by a warg and killed. The healers had tried to save him, but to no avail. He’d died in his sister’s arms. Belenar had killed herself that same day.

The whole kingdom had been rocked by the senseless deaths. Porin had been blamed and punished accordingly but it was cold comfort in the wake of such tragedy.
Farin had long felt guilty about their deaths. He felt he should have noticed how ruthless Porin had become. Were these Elven-twins his chance to absolve himself?
He sighed. Even if they weren’t, his conscience wouldn’t let him turn them away.

“How do I know you won’t cause trouble?” He addressed the twins in the common tongue.
Gripping his brother’s hand, Elladan spoke. “I can only give you our word, my Lord.” He said quietly. “My brother and I are deeply grateful for the kindness that has already been shown to us.” Farin considered the words.
“You speak also for your brother?” He asked. It was Elrohir who answered.
“We are as one, my Lord, our words are the same.”
Farin smiled. “Very well. You may stay until it is safe for you leave, but know that you will be watched. Norin, find them a room.”
The twins bowed. “We thank you for your generosity.” They said in unison.
Farin inclined his head in acknowledgement and then Norin ushered them away.

The dwarf showed them along an elaborately decorated hallway, the ceiling was lower here, but was no less spectacular than the other halls. The winding path continued for some ten minutes until Norin finally stopped outside a large, dark wooden door.
“This will be your room.” He said. “I’m sorry it’s so far away, but it is one of very few suitable for those of you height. It was a guest room back in the days when dwarves and elves were allies.” He opened the door and went in, the twins behind him.
They could immediately see what he meant. The furniture was obviously designed for far taller beings than dwarves. It had also been kept in good condition, despite long being disused. Dwarves were not ones to neglect their things. It was also as lavishly decorated as everywhere else they’d seen. The floor was made of thick slabs of polished stone, broken up by several thick animal-skin rugs. The bed was large and the posts were embossed with mithril and gold. It was covered in soft blankets and animal skins. There was a table with four chairs, the style of which matched the bed. A large, comfortable-looking sofa was at the far end of the room. The walls held several large but tasteful paintings and there were two cupboards for personal possessions. Norin quickly lit several lamps, giving the room a warm glow.

“This is beautiful!” Elrohir gasped. Elladan nodded in agreement. “This distance is of no importance.” He faced the smaller being. “Norin, we can never thank you enough.” The dwarf grinned.
“Ah, don’t worry about it! I’m just too softhearted for my own good! Settle in, I’ll have some food sent up.” He gave Elladan a hearty pat on the back and left.

Finally alone, Elladan smiled and pulled Elrohir into his arms. Elrohir relaxed into the embrace and smiled as Elladan leaned in to kiss him. He returned the kiss then took control, his tongue finding it’s way into Elladan’s mouth and entwining with his. Elladan pulled his twin closer, their bodies almost merging into each other. Elrohir moaned as Elladan’s hand moved to caress his backside.

Just then there was a loud knock on the door.

The twins jumped a mile and quickly pulled apart. Flustered, Elrohir hurried to the door. He opened it to reveal a dwarf carrying a huge platter laden with food.
“Mister Norin said to bring you some dinner.” Said the dwarf cheerfully. “I’m Lîm.” Elrohir’s eyes opened wide at the sight of the food.
“Surely that isn’t all for us?” He asked in amazement.
“Aye, of course it is!” Said Lîm, looking the twins over. “You’re both far too skinny!” Elrohir had no idea weather Lîm was male or female but he suspected female, the way the dwarf was fussing over them. “Now, enjoy that and get a good night’s rest!” Lîm said and walked briskly out of the room, leaving two slightly bemused elves behind.

Elrohir walked slowly to the table and took in the huge spread. Massive chunks of roasted meat, four different kinds of bread, huge cobs of roasted corn, several slabs of cheese, a dish of various fruits, a pot of creamy butter and two tankards of foaming ale.
He looked over at his twin. “Well, we might as well get started! I don’t know about you, but I’m famished!”
“Oh, me too.” Elladan replied. “In fact, I’m ravenous.” He looked pointedly at Elrohir, who laughed.
“Dinner first, desert later.”

They lay in the large bed, their naked bodies intertwined. Elrohir lazily kissed Elladan’s neck, causing the older twin to moan quietly. “Enjoying yourself?” Elrohir teased.
“Mmm, how could I not with you doing that?” Elladan replied, smiling. He wrapped his arms around Elrohir’s waist and his brother obligingly shifted to sit atop him. His hands teased Elladan’s nipples and the older twin squirmed.
“Ai, Elrohir…” He moaned and Elrohir moved his hands and slid down, bringing their bodies into line.
“Do you want me?” He breathed into Elladan’s ear.
“Yes.” Came the breathy reply. “Please, meleth nin…” Elrohir smiled. They had already spent their passion once but he, like his twin always felt the need to be close. It came from having to hide their love for so long, they cherished every moment.
Elladan raised his hips and Elrohir reached for the bottle of vanilla-scented oil, coating his fingers before sliding them inside his twin and lovingly preparing him. Elladan whimpered when Elrohir removed the fingers, but was quickly filled again as his brother slid inside him with a single smooth thrust. He set a steady pace, matching his twin’s movements to his own, until even their heartbeats matched exactly. Rapture filled them both, never were they so complete as when they were joined in body and soul. Elrohir thrust deeply, his mouth locked with Elladan’s, both quickly approaching their peak.

They came to completion together, each shouting the other’s name to the heavens.
Elrohir rolled off of his brother and to the side where he was immediately encircled by Elladan’s arm.
“I love you.” Elladan said, though the words were unneeded.
“I love you too.” Elrohir replied. He rested his head on Elladan’s shoulder. “How odd this all is.” He mused. “I never thought we’d find ourselves helped by those we have always been told were our enemy.”
“I know.” Said Elladan. “We have been told so many terrible things about dwarves, but so far none of them are true. I look forward to getting to know them better.”
“So do I.” Elrohir agreed. “Tomorrow.” He blinked sleepily.
“Ai, tomorrow.” Laughed Elladan. He was tired too. He pulled the blankets over the both of them and only moments later they were fast asleep.

The days passed surprisingly quickly. The dwarves found that they had two eager students, for the misled twins wished to learn all they could about their new friends. They were particularly interested in weapons making and spent much of their time in the armoury workshop. Both now had jewel-encrusted daggers that they had forged themselves and that had been highly praised by the others. Though not as good as those the master made they were solid and beautiful.

At night the dwarves snuck them out for some much-needed fresh air. For a couple of hours each night they could bathe in the starlight. As beautiful as Moria was, it was not a place for elves that thrived on the open air.
There was no leaving just yet though; there were still reports of Elven search parties in the area. Two months had passed, but it seemed the Lord Elrond had not yet given up the hunt for his errant sons.

*************************

It was almost dinnertime and the twins were on their way to the Feasting Hall. They had taken to dining with the dwarves most evenings and found themselves greatly enjoying their company. Their closest friends were Norin, Bifur and Lîm, who they’d discovered was indeed female. They were also quite fond of Bror, the master weapons maker as well as a young miner named Rundin.

Tonight however they were disappointed to find Norin, Bifur and Rundin absent. A mining expedition, Lîm said. She thought they must have found something, for it was running late.
Accepting this explanation the twins sat down and began to eat. They had hardly begun when one of the miners ran into the hall, panting heavily.
“You have to come!” He cried. “One of the shafts has collapsed, people are trapped!” Gasps of horror echoed round the Hall and everyone got up, heading to the mines to see what they could do to help.

With Elven speed the twins raced ahead of the dwarves and soon reached the site of the disaster. They quickly took in the horrifying scene. Fallen rock was everywhere and several dwarves were nearby, some badly injured. Blood covered all of them. In the corner blankets covered two still forms of unlucky dwarves who had been killed in the initial rock fall.
Near the entrance to the shaft lay Bifur, a nasty gash in his head and cradling an obviously broken arm. The twins rushed over to him, Elrohir ripping a strip from his tunic to bind the dwarf’s head.
“What happened?” Elladan asked. “Where’s Norin?” Bifur took a long, shaky breath. His eyes were dilated and he looked like he might pass out.
“He was behind me.” He gasped. “He was the one who noticed the shaft was collapsing. We should have got out together. But young Rundin had fallen behind. Norin went back for him. I haven’t seen him since.”

The twins exchanged looks of horror. That meant that Norin and Rundin were still trapped in the collapsed shaft. They looked at the amount of fallen rock. Were they even still alive?
