Title: Taking Shots
Author: Tuxedo Elf
Rating: G
Characters: Gildor, Orophin
Summary: Gildor and Orophin meet again.
Series: Wandering Home
Notes: Oh look - it's a series. LOL.

The arrow hit the target with ease, much to Orophin’s relief. He greatly disliked having to break in a new bow. Unfortunately it was unavoidable, as his previous bow had been damaged in the last border skirmish. He supposed it was his own fault for striking an Orc with it when his sword was knocked from his hand, but it didn’t make the resulting task any more enjoyable.

He took another arrow, picked his target and shot again. Again it hit the intended destination and he started to feel more confident with the new weapon.

“Nice shot,” an amused voice commented from the sidelines.

Turning, Orophin saw Gildor leaning against a nearby tree, watching him. He sighed inwardly. “Good day, Lord Gildor,” he said courteously.

“Oh, so I am a Lord now?” Gildor replied, even more amused.

Orophin glared but did not respond. However irritating and unlordly the Elf was, he did not wish to be seen committing an act of blatant disrespect against the Lady Galadriel’s kin. Instead he turned back to the targets, taking a careful shot at an object far less likely to complain at being impaled.

“Not bad,” Gildor commented, “though I am rather disappointed that you choose such easy targets. I thought you were an Elf who preferred a challenge.”

Slowly, Orophin walked up to where Gildor stood, eyeing him thoughtfully. “You wish me to shoot a more difficult target?”

Orophin nodded. “Very well. I am sure I can find something suitable.” With the tip of his bow, he suddenly hooked the floppy hat right off Gildor’s head. “This will do nicely.”

Taken aback, Gildor gasped. “You would not dare!”

Now it was Orophin who was amused and he grinned. “Would I not? You presume to know me and my inclinations?”

Gildor bristled and tried not to look worried. The hat was important to him and he did not want it shot full of holes. Reaching out, he grabbed the hat and jammed it back on his head. “Good day, Captain,” he said stiffly, turning and leaving the field as quickly as dignity permitted. Orophin had got the best of him twice now and his ego was starting to sting.

It was probably for the best that he did not see the smug grin that now graced Orophin’s face.

I'm so glad to see this! Gildor must have it bad, getting uncomfortable with Orophin. "leaving the field as quickly as dignity permitted." Lol.

* an object far less likely to complain at being impaled.* Nice. And the hat resonates. I completely get the hat attachment... I'm enjoying seeing Gildor here, and it's good to see Orophin confident. I rather like his sense of 'standards' that he likes upheld. I can imagine someone on duty for Galadriel perhaps feeling like that.
