Computer help?

Any tecchies here? My laptop just gave up the ghost. Thankfully, I already have a shiny new one, but I hadn't quite finished my backups and I'd really like those last few files. Windows (XP) won't load at all and the message is: < windows root > \ system32 \ ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted. Is this something I can overcome long enough to grab my files?
