Fic Warnings?
Apr. 7th, 2007 12:52 amMy last ficlet got some... interesting reactions. Once response in particular (not on LJ) berated me a fair bit for not using a character death warning.
So I was wondering - what are your views on fic warnings?
I can see it both ways. I don't like to read rape, non-con and certain pairings, so I much prefer to be warned if a fic is going to contain any of those things.
On the other hand, I don't see the sense in using a warning if doing so will ruin the fic. Had I put a warning on that last ficlet it would have, in my opinion anyway, made the story pointless.
Does it depend on that nature of the 'action?' Does rape or incest deserve a warning more than character death or interspecies? How do we define what is a squick and what is just a personal preference?
Also, you rarely get warnings of any kind on published books, unless you're in the adult section! ;) Why is fanfic different?
So, what do you think?
