Parties are SO over-rated
Dec. 23rd, 2006 12:05 pmSo, last night was our office party. I didn't really want to go... I don't get a lot of pleasure from stuff like that. I only agreed to go because it was all free and with the pathetic pay I get I wanted to get a little bit more out of them.
Really though, it was a catalogue of things I hate. Loud groups of people I hardly know getting exceedingly drunk to the point of being ill. Lovely.
The evening only took a turn for the better when I got chatting to one of the guys in the office and discovered that we both love sci-fi, especially Star Trek. That was the only decent conversation I had all night.
I'm often accused of being unsociable, but the more I go to these things, the more I realise that I like it that way. Give me a small group of friends over a rowdy party any day.
On the subject of alcohol, why do people assume that you cannot possibly have a good time unless you drink? I'm not a big drinker but I'm definitely *not* anti-alcohol. (Ask
geuzegirly or
enismirdal if you don't believe me!) However I drink when I want to, not when people tell me I must. I much prefer a few glasses of wine at home, thank you very much.
I was so, so glad when it was over.
Now if you'll excuse me I have to go sort my pressies for wrapping, make gingerbreads and Christmas cupcakes, clean the house, do my laundry and walk the dog. Joy.
