Eventful Day
Yesterday I went on a day-trip to France to go shopping. It was a lovely day and was so nice to get out and about for a bit! Was a very *long* day though! I'm now going to bore you with the details. :P
Got up at 5.30 and had to leave by 6.30. Thought it was all going to go to pot when my train didn't seem to be running - luckily it was, I just needed to change, something that totally eluded me at 6.30am! *Ahem*
Still, got to Dover for 8am and met up with
geuzegirly who was heading into London to see the grandparents, for a quick coffee before we went our separate ways.
Because I was actually tagging along on a trip hubby organised for his work colleagues, I had to wait for him to turn up in the minibus in the dark and cold. Luckily he wasn't too long!
The ferry crossing was a bit rough and I was glad I hadn't eaten - my stomach does not like being thrown about like that so early! Coffee was fine of course - coffee always is! *Grin*
Once we got there we did the essential trip to the wine shop - it's SO much cheaper in France and even I, with my taste for cheaper wines, can get what I like for half what you pay here. Then we traipsed off to one of the vast French hypermarkets for the REALLY important stuff - like hot chocolate powder! ;D
The rest of the day was spent in the City Europe shopping centre - hubby and I slipped off for a nice lunch together and a bit of shopping. I didn't get everything I needed since we ran out of time, but such is life! Got a bit of Christmas shopping done though.
The day in France ended on a bit of a downer - one of our party failed to turn up for the minibus. We gave him an extra half an hour, then we had to go or we'd miss the ferry back. I still have no idea where he went. Stupid moron. Hubby had seen him and hour before the meet-up time and warned him not to be late.
The crossing back was even rougher than it was going out, but luckily by that time of day my stomach is a bit more stable! Also took the opportunity to settle in the coffee bar and do a bit of writing.
Once back hubby dropped me off at the train station, as he was going back to London. Typically, it took me *another* hour and a half to get home again. Damn trains. Did stop off at the Chinese place for soup and a spring roll though, since it was far too late for dinner.
By the time I went to bed I'd been up nearly 21 hours!
Suffice to say, I slept *very* well! :P
