*Sigh*

Mother-in-law: The vets here are really nice and you can see them same day.
Vets this morning: We're fully booked.
Me: *Sigh*

So now we have to wait until tomorrow. Great, just great. At least Smudge is still eating, drinking, going out and purring madly at every touch. That's got to be good, right?

It is a very good sign that Smudge is still eating, drinking, etc. At least you can go to the vet's tomorrow. I am sure that it will be only a "stone" problem. When my cat Bert got sick years ago he went downhill extremely fast with a liver problem (cirrhosis) and he could not eat or drink and he mewed constantly in pain. This was all in the course of one day. When I rushed him to the animal hospital the vet gave him a shot to make him comfortable. With cats I think being so small, when they get really, really sick they just cannot function. So I think that Smudge's signs are very good and that this will prove to be a minor problem or something that you've caught very early, which is good too.
