Not sure anyone even still reads this! This is the update I was going to make at new year. Um. Oops?

In my defense, I've been pretty busy! ;)

There's still a lot of issues to deal with regarding my mother in law, my late father in law and the house fire. They now think she won't be back in her home until late summer. The flat she's got isn't bad, but it's not home.

I've also been working hard on my chocolates, trying to promote my business and build my customer base. I am now getting some repeat customers outside of friends and family, so that's pretty cool. It's on hold for April though, as we're moving house next week.

I didn't want to move, but our landlord has decided to sell the place. We had a hard time finding anything within walking distance of Aedan's school. We did eventually find one, but there was a pretty big scarifice - they don't allow pets. I've spent the last couple of months trying to find a home for the cat where I'll still be able to see him. In the end my uncle agreed to take him until my sister moves - her new place is pet friendly. My sister and I don't really get along, but she's the only one who actually seemed to WANT him. Still, I have a lot of guilt over the whole thing. Smudge has always been MY cat - this breaks my heart. But we ran out of options.

The boys are doing well... Aedan got an excellent report from his teachers at parents evening and I'm impressed at how much his reading and writing has improved. He finally got his birthday party in Febuary - I think he thought it was worth waiting for!

Marcus is being rather difficult at the momebt but I think it's the age - he talking but can't express himself properly yet and gets very frustrated. He's still as clingy as the day he was born, not sure when that's ever going to let up! But he's bright and growing well, so I can't really complain!

They're sharing a room in the new house - we have 3 bedrooms, but Aedan wants to share. Which will be great if it works, as we'll have a guest room.

We'll also have a larger garden for them to play in.. if the weather ever warms up!

Here be pics... boys, chocs and random stuff... )

HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY AEDAN!!!

Every year I wonder where the time goes. Growing up so fast!

I had to work today, so Neal and my Mum brought the boys in so I could join them for dinner. :)

Life is slowly getting back to normal and I should be around more soon.

I was going to do a proper update about kids, christmas, chocolate and all that, but my Father-in-law passed away last night, 2 hours before new year. So It's going to have to wait while I deal with all that. :(

People say no one cares about other people anymore. But in October a stranger helped Marcus when he slipped away from me. Today a stranger walked into my inlaws house, knowing the roof was ablaze, to make sure everyone got out. Then the care home opposite offered them a room for the night. Maybe humanity doesn't suck so badly after all, huh?

Currently using hubby's laptop as Marcus decided to pull half the keys off of mine. Sigh. That child is into EVERYTHING. Ordered a new keyboard and hopefully have someone to fit it.

Business is good which I am grateful for, but I'm rushed off my feet! I just want to sleep for a week!

And busy means no time to go to the cinema. I wanted to see The Hobbit as soon as it came out, but the earliest day I have free is the 23rd. Sadface.

Yummy

Today I made the most delicious mince pies with cranberries, spiced pastry and marzipan. Is it too early to feel a lot like Christmas? ^_^

Proper update at some point before new year. lol.

So, hello Dreamwidth.

I've been wanting to start posting a bit more again, so it seems like a good time to make the switch.

Am trying to customise things the way I want them... rather attached to my LJ layout and trying to get it as similar as possible here! Not quite there yet. Right now it looks pretty but it's a bit hard on the eyes. Also need more icons and a mood theme.

So, how is everyone?

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY MARCUS!!!
Love you so much, little man.

I can't believe it's been a year already! It's just gone by so quicky. He started walking just over a week ago - so grown up!
tuxedo_elf: (Rumil brown 2)
*Pokes LJ* Typical... the day I want to update, it goes down for hours. It's getting more and more irritating to get on here. And what's with the random icon selection? It's reverted to a free account and the icons I have left don't seem to be any of the ones I actually USE. Very annoying.

Anyway - busy couple of months in Tux land! Aedan did get into his school which is a huge relief. A lot of the kids weren't accepted, so we're very lucky. He's having a full 'taster day' next month, before starting full time in September.

Marcus is almost walking now, but lacks the confidence to really go for it! I actually expected him to walk sooner, since he sat and crawled early, but I'm not worried - it's easier this way, lol. I can't believe I'm planning his first birthday already!

Chocolate business taking off now. :) Did a stall at Aedan's school fair and it went really well. Doing another school fair next week. My facebook page wouldn't say no to a few more likers though, so pop over to http://www.facebook.com/hookedonchoc if you fancy a peek at my business world!

*Uses an Elf icon as that's all that seems to be left - maybe they're trying to tell me something? lol*

How much?!

Quick question for my American friends - roughly how much should it cost to post an A4 paper-shaped letter of about 7oz to the UK? Because the company I wanted stuff from says $40! That seems excessive - it isn't even worth that much!

*Dusts off LJ*

*Sneezes*

I can't believe I haven't posted since January! That's terrible! But in my defence I've been really, really busy! If I've misssed anything important, let me know!

Warning - this entry got VERY long and VERY pic-heavy!

Kids:
Aedan has just gone back to nursery after the Easter holiday. He definitely needed the break - sometimes I worry that 5 days a week is too much at his age, but he has to get used it before he starts school full time. We should hear in the next week or two if he's been offered a place in the main school for September. He *should* get in, since we live across the road from the school, but until I have in in writing I won't relax. I'm really stuffed if he doesn't get in... not only is it a very good school, but the next nearest is over 2 miles away and I don't drive. So, fingers crossed! He loves it there and has made lots of friends. I want him to keep all that.

Marcus is developing so fast it's scary. He's been pulling up to stand since 6.5 months old and started crawling at just after 7 months. I just can't keep up with him! Currently he's working on standing unassisted - I think he might be an early walker! He's finally started sleeping a bit better - on average he only wakes once a night now. Maybe one day I really will sleep a whole night again! On the downside, he has awful seperation anxiety. He can't bear to not be in physical contact with me. It's a bit draining and I hope it passes soon, because the crying every time I put him down is unbearable.

Family: Been a bit of a rough family time. One of my aunts is still in hospital after suffering multiple organ failure that she was extremely lucky to survive. They now think she will make a full recovery, but it will be a slow process.

I have never got on with my sister - we have nothing in common except parents. And now the little darling is getting married. Can we say 'Bridezilla?' She is running my parents ragged, taking everything and giving nothing. They're paying for the whole thing, since his parents don't like her and won't even let her in their house. So you'd think she'd be grateful. But no, she just keeps making more demands. The family are furious that I and the boys have been excluded. She was my bridesmaid, but refused to have me as hers and as for the boys 'I'd have had a flower girl, but Katie had boys.' Because nobody ever has Pageboys, right? I am fuming. Oh yeah, she still expects me to design her wedding invitations. So entitled.

Work:
It was a bit of a battle, they didn't really want me back, but I finally returned to the chip shop. I'm not really enjoying it, even though I'm only working one shift of nine hours. It really ruins my Sunday! I'm also selling Avon in an attempt to earn a bit more money!

Business:
I'm desperate to leave the chippy, so I've finally taken the plunge and started my own business! I decided a while ago that I wasn't going to do cakes as a main job - there are too many cake decorators - the competition is ridiculous. I will still make and sell them on request, but it will be a sideline. Instead I have started producing handmade chocolates and am having a great time trying out new flavours and fillings! It's early days yet and I'm still building up my customer base, but I really believe there is a future in this business. :)

And for anyone who made it this far - pictures! Kids, chocolate, etc! )

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY AEDAN!!!

Happy fourth birthday to my amazing boy. :)

He's having his party on Sunday, but he got the 'Tidmouth Sheds' playset for his train set from us and a wooden 'cranky the crane' from Marcus, so he's pretty happy! He's tired though, he kept getting up last night for some reason!

Hope everyone enjoyed new year.

Have to say I'm not feeling especially cheery - serious case of the new year blues over here. I have to go back to work next month, which I'm really not looking forward to. My manager is difficult to work for and I'm stll not getting much sleep. Marcus also hates taking the bottle and usually falls asleep on the boob, so no idea how Neal is going to manage. Luckily it should only be 2 nights a week. To add insult to injury, I'll be on less money than I'm getting now, because Maternity allowance pays based on your highest earnings and when I first started I was doing 3 nights a week.

We also probably have to move this year - the landlord wants to sell the house and unless Neal pulls off a miracle we can't afford to buy it. I love this house and the thought of moving is really dragging me down. This house is the right size, in the right place and the right price. I doubt we'll find anything else that good around here.

Meh. Sorry for the grumpy post.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Mine was celebrated on Boxing day, since I was trapped at the inlwas on the 25th! The boys got far too many gifts, my living room is definitely more of a playroom now! Need to buy some storage boxes!

I recently updated my dreamwidth journal imports I want to make sure I have everything if I need to switch over. I'm seriously unhappy with LJ at the moment. Not so much with the changes, although they suck, but with the unprofessional and dismissive attitude.

Funny though, I hadn't used that journal since late 2008. Was quite nice look back... read entries long forgotten about! Found some old fics too, uncompleted as usual! Ah well... one day! I would like to go back to the Gildor/Orophin series again.

Christmas pics below the cut for anyone who isn't sick to death of my boys by now!

We're all sick at the moment - stupid winter bugs dragging us all down!

Aedan has his school play tomorrow, his first ever, so I'm pretty excited! I've already sent his elf costume into the school - even though I still say it's the wrong kind of elf. ;)

Spoke to his teacher about the seemingly random toy cat story request. Ended up feeling a bit daft - apparently, when the toy pet comes home, it's as a reward for completing something they find particuarly difficult. Can't say I really understand how it works, but I'm glad I filled it in!

Below the cut are pics of the boys and some recent cakes.

Absolutely baffled - why is Aedan's nursery sending home a toy with a 'diary story' that clearly has to be filled in by the parents? They're supposed to be educating Aedan, not vetting *my* writing skills...

LOL

I just got a note from Aedan's nursery about their Christmas play.

Apparently, he's playing an Elf.

Halloween

Halloween isn't really my holiday. I'm grossed out by the guts and gore and am not a fan of trick or treating. But there are certain things you just do when you have kids... and the Toddler Group Halloween party is one of them. And I certainly had to 'do' it - I'm on the committee, so was involved in the set-up and running.

But on the bright side... I think my boys looked soooo cute in their costumes!

Not what I'd call scary... )

How much should it cost to send a small wallet to the UK from the US? I've been looking at a cute wallet on ebay, but the seller wants $31!!! I can't believe it can possibly cost that much!

Marcus is 3 months old today and so, I bring picspam! It's gone SO fast - surprising, considering how little sleep I've had! He's still a dreadful sleeper, at night he still rarely goes more than 3 hours between wakings. But he's full of smiles and loves to babble, so I let him off! :P I think the cuteness of babies is an evolutionary survival tactic! ;)

Aedan is settling in well at Nursery - he loves going every afternoon and I usually have to remind him to say goodbye to me before he runs into the classroom! He can't get in fast enough! His teachers seem pleased with him - it's the first time he's had to do truly structured activities and he found it hard at first, but he's settling in well. I get to go in for the first 15 minutes of the session every Wednesday, which is great for seeing how he's getting on.
